(WWW), a global designer and manufacturer of advanced water and wastewater treatment solutions, announces its WWW™ ArxZyme™ bioaugmentation line as a way for lagoon and pond operators to get ahead of summer upsets by controlling midge flies, algae and odor before they surface.

As water temperatures climb above roughly 59°F (15°C), the biology inside a wastewater lagoon accelerates. While the warmth speeds up the beneficial bacteria that drive treatment, it also accelerates the nuisances that plague operators each summer: midge fly larvae, algae blooms and the sulfate-reducing bacteria that produce hydrogen sulfide odor.

WWW’s ArxZyme™ treatment approach blends live bacterial cultures that reproduce in place and produce their own enzymes for sustained digestion, as well as dosed enzymes that act faster by breaking down and liquefying material on contact. Each seasonal nuisance calls for a different balance of the two:

  • For midge and filter flies, the ArxZyme line includes EPA-registered microbial biological larvicides that target larvae in the organic-rich sludge where they breed. It delivers protein crystals that activate only in the alkaline midgut of the larvae. The selective mechanism leaves mammals, birds and fish unaffected and sidesteps the resistance associated with conventional insecticides.
